Criminology Instructor | Reedley College CRIMINOLOGY INSTRUCTOR Reedley College Position No. 3564 Filing Deadline: Thursday, April 15, 2010, 4:30 pm PST Start Date: August 12, 2010 Essential Functions of Position Teaching a variety of courses that may include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Traffic Control, Criminal Evidence, Criminal Legal Procedure, Community Relations, Criminal Law, Police Operations and Procedures, Investigation of Crime Scene, Vice Control, Juvenile Procedures, Justice System Communications, Multicultural Issues Within Public Safety, Correctional Institutions, Probation and Parole, or other courses as designated. Additional responsibilities include: curriculum development and/or revision including student learning outcomes; teaching early morning, evening or weekend classes, working with community and campus organizations; participating in department, division and college committees; and otherwise fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of instructional staff as required. Minimum Qualifications Include earned bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience directly related to the discipline, or earned associate’s degree and six years of professional experience directly related to the discipline, or a valid California Community College Credential, or the equivalent education and/or experience, and demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Desirable Qualifications Include an earned Master’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, administration of justice, or a Juris Doctor; extent of experience working in the criminal justice system; extent of teaching experience at the post-secondary level; extent of experience working with students of various ages and cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds; extent of knowledge in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes; extent of ability to take a leadership role in the development of the criminology program; extent of knowledge and use of current educational technology methods and tools; extent of related work experience and potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; extent of knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals, and preparation for an interest in teaching community college students. Preference shall be given to candidates with over three years experience working in the criminal justice system. Conditions of Employment 177 duty days per year. Salary and Benefits Starting salary is $51,992 - $78,276 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $1,945 is available. Selection Procedure Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. They will be invited to interview. Interviewees may be asked to conduct a short teaching demonstration. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions and the teaching demonstration (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President or Vice Chancellor and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
